Slack Bitch

Ok I am totally a slack bitch.  Had good intentions to be a dedicated blogger but that went out the window real quick.

So my surgery went very well.  Came through it like an old pro!!  Very out of it for the first day, and only had sips of water.  Pain was not too bad.  I was on a Fentynl (?) drip that I thought was useless so come off that and stuck to Endone which was awesome!!

Started on Jelly and custard and soup on the second day and that was my diet for the rest of my time in hospital (7days total).  I ate and drank very slowly and had no discomfort.

Had one complication which was a huge 12cm blood clot in my right arm from the drip, which was excrutiating and much more painful than the surgery itself.  Had to inject myself with Clexane blood thinner for 2 weeks after I was released from hospital which was interesting.

And then something interesting happened!  I was HUNGRY!  WTF!  I was told that I would not feel hunger for months after and here I was feeling hungry.  Not starving hungry, but a little rumble.  I asked my Surgeon about it at the post-op follow up on day 14 and he said that it isnt hunger, and that it was healing, and the body interprets the healing movements etc as hunger.  PHEW!

I was loosing a kilo a day after surgery for the first 17 days (a lot of it was fluid) and then it stopped cold.  Starvation mode had kicked in and lasted for about 2 weeks.  Am a total of 24 kg down now after 6 weeks and I am as happy as larry.

I seem to be ok on low amounts of sugar.  Sugar on my oats and in coffee is going down fine, but felt very ill after eating a bit of birthday cake at a 1yr olds party!  But I don't seem to be able to tolerate fat, which is fine by me!  Tried to eat a very yummy yellow chicken curry and after a few small mouthfulls I experienced my first 'dumping syndrome'.  Hot and cold flashes, dizzy, nausea, sweating and abdominal pains.  It was AWFUL!  Won't be doing that again anytime soon.

So I guess its just a case of trial and error as to what I will be able to tolerate.  I am being very mindful of trying to keep my protein levels up and am trying to drink a protein shake (30g protein) every day.  I have just started back on solids and I had a piece of bread with ham (so half a normal sandwich) and I was chockers.  When I am full, I stay full, which is awesome.  It used to be that I would eat to full, and within 20 mins or so I could eat again.  Now when I am full, I can't even look at food for a good hour or 2.  YES!!

So, all things going well at the moment :)
